How the abortion pill works
Medication abortion uses two medicines. The first, mifepristone, stops the pregnancy from continuing. The second, misoprostol, is taken later as your doctor directs and causes cramping and bleeding that empty the uterus, much like an early miscarriage.
Most of the process happens at home. You will have a follow-up to make sure the abortion is complete.
Florida law and timing
Florida law limits abortion to early pregnancy: in most cases, the first six weeks, counted from the first day of your last period. There are some exceptions. Because the window is short, call as soon as you know you are pregnant.
Florida also requires the abortion pill to be given in person, so your visit is at the clinic.

Call us, or get emergency care, if you soak through two or more large pads an hour for two hours in a row, have a fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher that lasts more than 4 hours, or have severe pain that medication does not help.
