Nexplanon Implant in Miami
Nexplanon is a small, flexible rod, about the size of a matchstick, placed just under the skin of the upper arm. It releases a hormone called etonogestrel that prevents pregnancy for years, and it can be removed whenever you choose.
How it works
The implant releases a steady, low dose of etonogestrel, a progestin that stops the ovaries from releasing an egg. There is nothing to take every day and nothing to remember.
Insertion and removal
After numbing the skin, the provider places the implant in a few minutes. You may have some bruising or tenderness for a few days. Removal is also a short office procedure, through a small cut in the numbed skin.
Things to know
- Bleeding patterns often change. Some people have irregular spotting, and others stop having periods.
- It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections.
- Fertility returns soon after the implant is removed.
