What happens at your first visit

Most people who call us have never been to an abortion clinic and have no idea what the day looks like. Here is the visit from start to finish, so there are fewer surprises.

What to bring

  • A photo ID.
  • The first day of your last period, if you remember it.
  • A list of any medicines you take and any conditions you are treated for.
  • Someone you trust, if you want company. Coming alone is just as normal.

When you arrive

You check in and fill out a short health history. Our staff speak English and Spanish. What you tell us, and the fact that you came at all, stays between you and the clinic.

The blood test and the sonogram

A blood test confirms the pregnancy, and a sonogram shows how far along you are and that the pregnancy is in the uterus. Neither is a formality: your dates decide what the law allows and which options are open to you.

Talking with the doctor

The doctor goes through your options, how each one works, the risks and what recovery looks like. Florida law requires part of this conversation to happen in person at least 24 hours before an abortion, which is why there is a second visit. Ask everything you want to ask. Nobody here will rush you or push you toward one choice, and saying you are not sure yet is a perfectly normal thing to say out loud.

The second visit

The second visit is the abortion itself, whether that means the medicines or the procedure. For a procedure, plan on a few hours at the clinic between checking in, the procedure and resting afterwards. Ask about sedation when you book, so the clinic knows what you would like.

What it costs

Ask when you call. We tell you what your visit costs before you decide anything, so the number never arrives as a surprise afterwards.

The questions we hear most

  • Will anyone find out? Your visit and your records are confidential.
  • Can I bring someone? Yes.
  • Do I need an appointment? Call first. It is also how we make sure you are seen while your options are still open.
  • What if I change my mind? You can stop at any point. Nothing is decided until you say so.
